About 26,000 South Australian households have responded to the Origin Energy electricity offer negotiated by the South Australian Government.
Origin Energy is offering an 11 per cent deal on gas with the same benefits of the electricity offer to South Australians receiving State Government concessions.
The Origin Energy electricity offer has prompted AGL to respond with its own offers, putting downward pressure on power prices in SA.
The State Government provides concessions totalling $170 million to more than 180,000 households for expenses including energy, water, sewerage, the Emergency Services Levy, and the Cost of Living Concession.
The SA Government negotiated the deal with Origin Energy on behalf of South Australians on low and fixed incomes.
SA Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion, Zoe Bettison, said the offers are part of the state’s broader energy plan that includes projects like the world’s largest lithium ion battery, the Port Augusta solar thermal plant and now the world’s largest virtual power plant.
“More competition, more renewable energy and greater self-sufficiency are combing to put downward pressure on energy prices for all South Australians.”
