Santos has submitted its application to the NSW Government seeking approval to construct a water treatment facility at the Leewood property south of Narrabri.

The facility will allow the salt water produced during exploration and appraisal programs to be treated and reused to irrigate a section of Leewood. The water will also be utilised during operational activities including construction and dust suppression. The proposal will also consider opportunities for beneficial reuse of the treated water for third party irrigation or fire-fighting purposes.

Assessment of the proposed facility will be through a Review of Environmental Factors process (REF) under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

The Office of Coal Seam Gas will be the determining authority for the proposed activity.
