Seqwater has launched an improved version of its free public safety app ahead of South East Queensland’s summer storm season to keep residents up to date on water supply and recreation news.

The Seqwater app, originally launched in November 2016, provides users with important safety information about dam releases, lake closure alerts and water supply levels across the authority’s 26 dams.

Seqwater CEO, Neil Brennan, said the smartphone-based app had already proven valuable in helping people stay informed and safe.

“Following the launch of the app, it has been downloaded almost 8,000 times,” Mr Brennan said.

“Since its release, we have gathered feedback from users to refine and improve the product.”

Among the enhancements to the Seqwater app are live updates of the region’s SEQ Water Grid levels, with historical data to inform people of changing dam levels.

“We’ve improved our recreation search tool so that people can now search for a specific activity or location, and be provided with a list of recreation opportunities at Seqwater-managed sites,” Mr Brennan said.

“We’ve also refreshed the look and feel of the app to allow users to get the information they’re looking for more quickly and added offline capabilities so users could still stay up to date when out of service range.”

Mr Brennan said it was important for Seqwater to make improvements and release a new version of the public safety app to help South East Queenslanders get ready for the 2020 storm season.

“People rely on the efficient delivery of public safety information, particularly when extreme weather events impact our water supply lakes, to make informed decisions to stay safe,” Mr Brennan said.

Mr Brennan said the improvements to the app were in line with recent improvements to the Seqwater website which was launched in late 2019.

South East Queenslanders are encouraged to download the new app here or go to to register for dam release notifications ahead of summer.
