South East Water ended 2019 on a high after receiving two awards and gaining recognition for its projects at the Australian Water Association (AWA) and Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) awards.

Liveability Manager, Terry Dalgliesh, received the Water Professional of the Year award at the Victorian AWA awards. Over the last 30 years, Mr Dalgliesh has pioneered a number of innovative programs and projects that have provided improved reliability, liveability, customer support and answers to how drinking water can be better utilised to address challenges such as climate change and population growth.

RMIT Ph.D. student, Matthew Kube – who is sponsored by South East Water – won the 2019 Student Water Prize for his project ‘Harnessing Immobilised Algae for High Rate Wastewater Treatment’ as a sustainable wastewater treatment technology.

The joint development between South East Water and Villawood Properties, Aquarevo, received a high commendation in the UDIA Victoria’s Infrastructure Project Innovation category and the property industry’s Highest Accolade for Environmental Excellence. The UDIA Victoria recognised Aquarevo for its innovative water and energy conserving initiatives that make it Australia’s most water and energy efficient residential community.

The AWA also recognised South East Water’s rain-to-hot water initiative (Research Innovation category) and the Mountain Highway AC Water Main Renewal project (Infrastructure Project Innovation Award), alongside its partners at Interflow, as finalists.
