A major upgrade of the Rozelle substation will accommodate future infrastructure in Sydney, including WestConnex Rozelle Interchange and Sydney Metro West.

The upgrade will continue amid pandemic restrictions, as Ausgrid forges ahead with critical works across the electricity network.

The Rozelle substation helps provide a safe and reliable power supply to Sydney’s CBD and Sydney Trains.

The upgrade will create connection points for new customers as well as support the major new transport infrastructure projects in the area.

The project has passed a significant milestone with the completion of civil construction works on a new switchroom building at the substation.

The final design of the new switchroom building was selected based on feedback from the local community and features brick cladding which blends in with other buildings in the area.

With the building and associated civil works now complete, work will begin to install new electrical equipment inside the substation.

A second transformer bay will be built on the site in 2021 to cater for growing demand from customers.

Construction began in August 2019 in conjunction with Ausgrid’s contractor partner Diona. The project is being delivered on time and on budget.

Ausgrid is continuing this type of critical work across some parts of the grid during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure it can secure power supply to customers and essential services; continue to support vital economic activity; and also meet critical infrastructure requirements in NSW.

Work on this critical project was able to continue with extra health safeguards in place.
