Western Australian Energy Minister, Bill Johnston, has announced changes to Synergy’s board, with two new appointments, and the terms of two existing members to be extended.

Bronwyn Barnes and Richard Watson have been appointed to the new positions, with each being appointed for two-year terms.

Mr Johnston said he was confident that Ms Barnes and Mr Watson’s extensive experience will be invaluable to the Synergy board, and that they will help deliver the best outcomes for Western Australians.

“I am glad to have such an exceptional board membership during this time of change for the energy sector,” Mr Johnston said.

Ms Barnes has served as a member of several boards across a variety of industries, and was inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame earlier this year. Ms Barnes brings outstanding corporate governance and planning skills, and her experience seeing through large and complex projects.

Mr Watson is an economist and graduate of Cambridge University. He is the executive director at the Department of Treasury since 2014, and brings a variety of expertise to the board – including in revenue policy issues and economic forecasting.

These new appointments will enhance the board’s skills and capabilities, and help guide Synergy through continuing change in the energy sector.

In addition to these new appointments, Rob Bransby has been reappointed for an 18-month term and Michele Dolin has been reappointed for a two-year term.
