Tasmanian Irrigation Chief Executive, Chris Oldfield, has left his role to become the Australian Consul-General and Senior Trade Commissioner in San Francisco.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jeremy Rockliff, said Mr Oldfield has been instrumental in helping to change the landscape of Tasmania.

Mr Oldfield has overseen the completion of ten new irrigation schemes as part of the first tranche of irrigation schemes and has been a force in progressing the five proposed Tranche 2 Schemes.

Mr Rockliff said that Tasmanian Irrigation has been ‘nation-leading’ under Mr Oldfield, as they have delivered a public-private partnership where the Federal and State Governments back famers investing their own money into these schemes.

The model has since been recognised as a successful template for other Australian jurisdictions and overseas.
