A tender to undertake vital upgrades at Woronora, Avon, Nepean, Cordeaux and Cataract dams has been awarded to Downer.

These dams supply up to 30 per cent of Sydney’s drinking water and are vital in ensuring high quality water is supplied to Sydney and the Illawarra.

The project across the five dams involves:

  • Upgrading electrical, control, instrumentation and communication assets and relocating electrical lines underground
  • Improving the reliability of electrical services to all equipment and facilities onsite including picnic areas
  • Improving safety during bushfires

Access to the dam wall and surrounding recreation areas may be restricted at all five dams when construction work is taking place at the respective sites. There may be increased traffic in and around the work sites and some localised noise and dust impacts.WaterNSW is keeping residents, local businesses and the wider community informed of any potential disruptions and is striving to minimise impacts.
