Sydney Water (NSW) is planning to change the way it contracts for energy management services and is seeking tenders from suppliers to help design a procurement strategy for better customer outcomes.

The procurement strategy will focus on resource recovery, self-generation of energy, energy efficiency and electricity purchasing.

Planning needs include cogeneration and hydro, food waste digestion, solar and wind, energy efficiency in design and operations, power purchase agreements and demand response.

Sydney Water predicts wastewater treatment plants will be potential clean energy generators of the future.

It’s possible that some of Sydney Water’s wastewater plants will generate more energy than they use in the future by: using leading edge, energy efficient processes maximising the energy capture from wastewater adding new organic waste streams.

Submissions to tender close 30 March 2018
