TOBCO is busy constructing two 330kV Capacitor Banks and asset replacements at the Armidale Zone Substation, 4.5km east of Armidale in New South Wales.

Civil works include concrete footings for the capacitor banks, marshalling boxes, lightning mast, light poles, Busbar supports, and current breaker supports plus electrical conduits, cast in situ pits, gutters and channels, stormwater and yard surfacing works. Security fencing and all final landscaping is also included.

Conditions are challenging due to work being next to a live substation and the need to comply with several safety rules and regulations that come with working in and around a live substation. In addition,  rain has made the site difficult to operate in. However, the team is working closely with TransGrid and Zinfra to achieve a successful outcome for all involved.

TOBCO has been working in transmission substations for some time now and prides itself on being able to take on these contracts with clients that want to see a subcontractor utilising its own people and plant.

TOBCO has invested in its people and has a commitment to training and employing local workers that are willing to come on board and move from project to project and utilise these new skills.
