United Energy has awarded an $180 million contract for 24/7 network operations, maintenance and augmentation services.

Downer EDI Limited (Downer) was awarded the three-year contract which will see 300,000 consumers benefiting from their services.

Downer has been United Energy’s electricity network service provider for their southern electricity region since 1 January, 2012.

“The renewal of this contract is testament to the importance of building relationships based on shared values with our customers,” said the Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn.

“Our 250 employees complete approximately 50,000 work orders each year for United Energy and we do more than just deliver network services. We have, for example, implemented innovation and safety forums, introduced mobility and productivity tools and delivered more than 500 quality audits. A number of Downer employees have also been awarded United Energy Chairman’s Awards for excellence in safety,” said Mr Fenn.

The Chief Executive Officer of United Energy, Hugh Gleeson, said Downer will continue to help United Energy meet the highest safety and reliability standards for the network.

“We are very pleased to continue working with Downer because they have a culture that is consistent with our own. It is a culture that focuses on ensuring the health and safety of our employees, contractors and community,” Mr Gleeson said.

“Downer has a strong customer service record and, like United Energy, is a part of our local community.”

The three year contract is effective from 1 July 2016 and there is an option for an additional two years.
