After eleven years as CEO, Hugh Gleeson has resigned from United Energy and Multinet Gas (UE & MG). He will leave the business at the end of September.

Mr Gleeson joined UE’s leadership team when the business was privatised in 1994. As CEO of both UE & MG since 2003, Mr Gleeson has been instrumental in guiding the evolution of the business to become one of Victoria’s leading energy providers.

Peter Lowe, Chairman of UE & MG said Mr Gleeson’s contribution goes well beyond his eleven years as CEO.

“Hugh’s contribution to the business has been significant over the whole 20 years, during what has been a period of immense change in the electricity and gas sector.

“UE is now recognised by the AER as one of the most efficient electricity distribution businesses in the country. Likewise, MG is an outstanding operation, delivering safe and reliable gas to more than 680,000 Victorians every day.

“On behalf of the Board, we thank Hugh for his outstanding contribution.” Mr Gleeson said he will leave UE & MG with a profound sense of pride in all that has been accomplished.

“After twenty years with UE and sixteen with MG, the time has come for me to move on to the next chapter of my life.

“When I first landed in the business in 1994 it was the beginning of a new world for utilities and today we are one of the benchmarks for Australian distribution businesses.

“UE & MG are both well positioned to lead the energy sector as it enters the next era of change.”
