Unitywater has won a 2016 Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Award for its fast response times to Dial Before You Dig enquires.

Unitywater was awarded the Performance Award, which recognises high performance of member companies when responding to Dial Before You Dig enquiries related to the location of underground infrastructure.

Competition entrants are judged on a range of criteria, including speed of response, quality of response, availability, accuracy and quality of material provided to the enquirer.

The Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA) presented the award to Unitywater during the Locate 2016 Conference in Melbourne in April 2016.

Previous winners of the Performance Award include Energex, Water Corporation WA and Telstra.

Unitywater Executive Manager Infrastructure Planning and Capital Delivery, Simon Taylor said the award can be attributed to the diligence of staff as well as a system called TicketAccess (previously known as AIRS – Asset Information Request System) that Unitywater adopted from Australian software and services company PelicanCorp in June 2014.

“The system allows Unitywater to very quickly workflow a Dial Before You Dig request with paperwork and a map,” Mr Taylor said.

“According to a report charting Unitywater’s performance in the 2015 calendar year, we responded to a total of 45,483 requests and our average response time was just 20 minutes.”
