Volunteer firefighters to receive energy bill credits

In an effort to support those affected by the bushfires, AGL will provide thousands of volunteer firefighters with a $150 credit per customer on their electricity or gas bills.

AGL Customer Advocate, David Bland, said registered volunteer firefighters should provide their volunteer ID numbers to AGL customer service staff and the bill relief would be applied to the next bill.

“This goodwill gesture is our way of supporting these heroes who have been saving lives and property by fighting the bushfires which are having such a devastating impact on our communities,” Mr Bland said.

“We thank them for their bravery because without their tireless efforts, this disaster could be so much worse.

“We also know that at a time like this, energy bills are probably the last thing on the minds of volunteer firefighters.

“But when they finally have time to think about their own position, they can contact AGL at their convenience on 13 12 45 because our customer service centres are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“If they need more help with their bills, our trained staff would be only too happy to discuss our payment assistance program.”

Mr Bland said AGL was also supporting customers affected by bushfires by pausing their billing.

“We urge anyone who continues to be affected to follow the advice of local authorities and call 000 if life or property is at risk,” he said.
