Water Corporation is making a significant investment in Subiaco in Perth to proactively refurbish and renew water, wastewater and drainage infrastructure to ensure the area has secure and reliable water, wastewater and drainage network well into the future.
Wastewater pipe refurbishment – Forrest Street and Churchill Avenue – November 2017 to December 2018
From early November 2017, work will get underway to refurbish around one kilometre of wastewater pipes along Forrest Street and Churchill Avenue in Subiaco. This work will extend the life of this important infrastructure by at least 50 years.
Water Corporation will use trenchless technology to reline the wastewater pipes to reduce the need for extensive excavation. This technology works by inserting a liner into the pipe, which results in a smooth and continuous ‘pipe within a pipe’.
This project follows work to refurbish wastewater pipes along Churchill Avenue, between Olive Street and Axon Street earlier in September 2017.
Pipes for Perth – Coghlan Road – early November to December 2017
Work will start along Coghlan Road and Thomas Street from early November 2017 to replace a section of water main as part of the Pipes for Perth project.
The water main to be replaced along Thomas Street was first installed around 100 years ago and the project will provide a more secure water supply for the Subiaco community.
The project is due to be completed in December 2017.
Drainage upgrade – Churchill Avenue between Townshend Road and Axon Street – December 2017 to April 2018
The drain along Churchill Avenue, between Townshend Road and Axon Street, will be upgraded to protect local homes and businesses against the likelihood of flooding after storm events.
The drain was first installed around 100 years ago and this work will increase its capacity to store water during storm events.
The drain is located underneath the centre of Churchill Avenue, where it stores water during major storm events, allowing it to soak into the soil which reduces the risk of flooding to nearby properties.
The upgrade will affect both lanes of Churchill Avenue, with traffic management in place.
Preparatory work will start in December 2017, with construction due to begin in early January 2018.
