Gippsland Water is set to begin major works at the Sale Water Treatment Plant on Cunninghame Street (VIC).

As part of the $4.8 million project, new equipment will be built to improve water quality at the plant and improve performance.

“Some of this infrastructure dates back to the 1930s when Sale’s water came from the Thompson River,” said Gippsland Water General Manager of Customer Service and Communications Paul Clark.

“This investment will help safeguard the supply of clean, fresh and safe drinking water for our customers in Sale well into the future,” added Mr Clark.

Work will commence in late February on the site with demolition of older plant followed by the construction of a contact tank, new aeration towers and new chemical dosing facility.

The upgrade will be complete by December 2015. The Sale Water Treatment Plant works are part of nearly $10 million worth of investment in Sale over the next three years.

Work is already underway on the construction of a second water supply line to the town and the construction of a new pump station at the Cunninghame Street site. “We have been working on these projects for a number of years in terms of planning, design and tender process.

Now is the exciting phase, when we get to improve what we have, invest in local communities and deliver services to our customers in Sale,” concluded Mr Clark.
