Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) has announced the winner of the Ixom Best Tasting Tap Water in Australia competition for 2020.

The Rossarden Water Treatment Plant, which is run in partnership with water services provider TRILITY, has taken out the top prize, beating finalists from around the country to win the coveted award.

TasWater Senior Water System Optimisation Scientist, Stephen Westgate, said it was an honour for Tasmanian water to be chosen as the top drop.

“It’s a great result for the community and is particularly pleasing because Rossarden was part of our 24glasses Regional Towns Water Supply Program, which accelerated works to provide safe drinking water for 24 towns across Tasmania,” Mr Westgate said.

“It’s a welcome bonus to see it recognised as the best tasting drinking water in Australia.”

TRILITY Operations Manager, Tasmania, Mark Collins, said, “It’s been a privilege to partner with TasWater and it makes me very proud of TRILITY.

“Our operators put in a lot of work and it’s a great honour for the team to be recognised as having the best tasting tap water in Australia.”

WIOA Chief Operations Officer, Craig Mathisen, said WIOA members, including TasWater and TRILITY are working hard behind the scenes for their communities to deliver high-quality drinking water, whilst dealing with the impacts of COVID-19 and before that drought, fires and floods in various parts of Australia.

“Despite the unprecedented conditions faced by some of our members, they’re rising to the challenge to meet their community’s needs.”

This is the second time Tasmania has won the national award, in 2016 water from TasWater’s Barrington Water Treatment Plant was named the best in the country.

The award acknowledges that TasWater is delivering great tasting, safe and reliable drinking water to Tasmania’s regional communities.

Rossarden’s water will now go up against global competition in the International Best Tasting Tap Water Competition in West Virginia in 2021.
