An expansion of Synergy and Potentia Energy’s Warradarge Wind Farm is now underway, set to increase the project’s capacity by 103MW.

Under the $400 million expansion, an extra 30 wind turbines are being built, adding to 51 turbines that have been producing reliable, renewable energy since 2020.

The 30 new turbines will be capable of providing 103MW of wind energy. They will be the same size as the existing turbines, with a tip height of 152m and blades 67m-long.

When completed, the expanded wind farm will provide up to 283MW of power for the SWIS (South West Interconnected System), making it the biggest wind farm in Western Australia. It will also be the largest by energy generated, able to power about 164,000 households a year.

Western Australian Energy and Decarbonisation Minister, Amber-Jade Sanderson, toured the wind farm on 29 July 2025, with earthworks underway in preparation for the installation of the extra turbines.

The expansion is due to be completed in 2027, and more than 120 jobs are expected to be created at the peak of construction.

Warradarge Wind Farm is owned by Bright Energy Investments (BEI), a joint venture between government-owned Synergy and Potentia Energy. Synergy has contributed $28.8 million to the expansion.

Warradarge Wind Farm is one of the top-performing wind assets in Australia. It is among more than 9800MW of renewable energy, storage and gas projects that will provide the power required by 2029–30 to support Western Australia’s closure of coal-fired power stations.

Ms Sanderson said she was pleased to announce construction starting on this important wind energy project.

“The expansion of Warradarge Wind Farm represents a significant increase and contribution to renewable power generation in Western Australia,” she said.

“Our state has abundant wind resources, particularly in the Mid West region.

“This project along with other grid-scale wind and solar farms and big batteries will enable us to exit coal by 2030 – faster than any other state.

“Relying on coal-fired power generation no longer makes sense – economically or environmentally.

“Warradarge Stage 2 is not just about building a bigger wind farm – it’s about building a better future for generations to come.”

Bright Energy Investments General Manager, Tom Frood, said the Warradarge Wind Farm is recognised as one of the best in the country and Stage 2 will consolidate this success.

“We will continue to work closely with the local community and stakeholders to ensure the project benefits everyone,” he said.
