Horizon Power has announced that its CEO, Stephanie Unwin, will continue to lead the company for five more years, after the company’s board chose to extend her term of service based on her impressive leadership since joining the company in 2019.

On behalf of the Board, Horizon Power’s Chair, Samantha Tough, said that Ms Unwin is successfully leading Horizon Power as it navigates the rapidly changing energy landscape, driving meaningful cultural change, while strongly positioning the organisation to deliver on its long-term strategy and business objectives.

“The next few years will be vitally important as we lead the way in WA’s decarbonisation journey, providing cleaner energy solutions for our regional and remote customers,” Ms Tough said.

“The Board is delighted Stephanie will be remaining with us and have full confidence that she will continue leading with integrity, commitment and passion.”

Ms Unwin said she was thrilled the Board had offered her the opportunity to extend her tenure as CEO of Horizon Power, a decision that has been endorsed by the Western Australian Minister for Energy, Bill Johnston.

“I am so proud of our entire team and the way they consistently bring their passion and innovative thinking to help us deliver a cleaner energy future for our customers, while supporting the growth of vibrant regional communities,” Ms Unwin said.

“We are solving real problems in each of our communities right across Western Australia, and I am proud of the work we do to deliver meaningful programs and initiatives that support our customers.”

Ms Unwin said it was an exciting time to be in the energy industry and she was privileged to work with some of the best and brightest in the energy sector at Horizon Power.

“Helping shape a new energy landscape for regional and remote Western Australia means we have a busy and challenging time ahead. We have a decarbonisation agenda that reflects the state’s ambition, and this sees us transitioning some of our biggest emitting systems while ensuring we don’t leave anyone behind.”

Ms Unwin cited the Pilbara, and the vital role Horizon Power will play in helping the region and the state meet its decarbonisation goals.

“With more than 50 per cent of our emissions occurring in the Northwest Interconnected System (NWIS), we’re keenly focused on opportunities in this area. Our goal is to help develop new infrastructure to encourage isolated power systems in the Pilbara to connect to the NWIS, demonstrating the reliability of common user infrastructure as industry evaluates its decarbonisation options.

“We’re passionate about energy equity at Horizon Power and believe strongly that transitioning to renewable sources should be accessible to all of our customers, regardless of circumstances,” Ms Unwin said.

“I am really looking forward to helping us build on our achievements and continue to support our regional communities as we accelerate toward a net zero carbon future. I’m excited to see how we step up our innovation and continue to deliver cleaner energy solutions for the people of Western Australia across our vast service area.”
