Seqwater is about to commence the staged upgrade of Maroon Dam, QLD to improve flood capacity and implement dam safety measures that were identified during recent design and geotechnical investigations.
Design and geotechnical investigations at Maroon Dam have identified minimum upgrade requirements to address embankment stability and improve flood capacity. Stage 1 work will involve extension of the existing weighting berm 30 metres downstream and extension of grout curtain and foundation drains on the abutments to improve embankment stability on the eastern side of the dam. Excavation works in the spillway area will generate material for construction of the weighting berm and direct flood flows downstream of the embankment and outlet works.
Construction will take place while the dam is operational and a dam safety management plan will be developed in order to ensure that all relevant safety requirements are met.
